About the artists
CAYLA MAE SIMPSON is an interdisciplinary movement artist based in Los Angeles. Raised in Sapello, New Mexico, Simpson grew up on a small farm immersed in agriculture and enchanted by the elements. Her live performances, immersive installations, and dance films explore the profound connections between nature, animism, and technology. Simpson has held fellowships and residencies with the Hemera Foundation, CultureHub LA, and the Institute of Electronic Arts at Alfred University. Her work has been presented at Lincoln Center, the Baltimore Museum of Art, 1969 Gallery, Fosdick-Nelson Gallery, and festivals internationally. She holds degrees in dance performance, film, and media arts from Southern Methodist University.
CAMILLE LITALIEN is a Movement Artist, Therapist and Educator approaching 3 decades of experience teaching in Higher Education and Conservatory settings (Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, The Theatre School at DePaul University and The Michael Chekhov School to name a few) . Her life long research spans across a wide range of Somatic practices such as Classical Hatha Yoga, Body Mind Centering, Life Art Process and Skinner Releasing among others, that support, nourish and serve a sincere desire to (re)connect to the sensuous animate world and the "more than human” voices that still whisper to us when we manage to get out of the way... In this process, opportunities to co-create and share 'in-transic' dances arise and sometimes grace us with experiences of direct inter-relationality with our environments. As an artist, Camille has created and performed work with companies such as the Royal Opera Ballet Covent Garden and The Young Vic Theatre, and won numerous awards and international residencies as a choreographer/director.
Together
3 years ago, Shortly after meeting and dancing together for the first time in our beloved rural northern New Mexico, a collaborative process emerged naturally through our common interest to merge stories, animacy, and sheer joy of moving body and imagination simultaneously: We are thrilled and humbled to share Dance Journeys with you this weekend!
